August Towel Drive in Support of The Mustard Seed
During the entire month of August, we’re putting out the call for donations of new and gently used bath towels to end the critical shortage at The Mustard Seed.
Having a towel to dry off with after a shower seems like a common amenity, but to many members of Calgary’s at-risk community, a towel may be an uncommon luxury. Most of us have never had to dry off with an old sock, or our only set of clothes. Providing towels to organizations like The Mustard Seed ensures everyone a basic amenity and the right to dignity. Whether preparing for a job interview or having a shower for the first time in days (sometimes weeks) every single person deserves a warm towel to dry off with.
Every day, The Mustard Seed issues up to 370 towels, some of which unfortunately don’t come back for use by another member of the community in need. The Mustard Seed does incredible things for our community, and worrying about how many towels they have is something we can take off their plate by working together.
This worthy cause inspired us to launch our towel drive during the Calgary Folk Music Festival, where we collected over 1500 towels in just four days. Our founding partner Forward Level Marketing and community partner Stand & Command did an incredible job of driving this initiative with us. A huge thank you goes out to ATB Financial. ATB doesn’t just listen, they act, and when they heard our call they donated 1000 (!!!) towels without a moment of hesitation.
We’ve been so inspired by the power of our community coming together, and we need to continue that momentum. This month we’re aiming to collect 5000 towels with the support of our new community partners, Moodys Gartner Tax Law and Stawowski McGill. We know there’s no limit to what our community can do when we hear a call for help.
Let’s make a huge difference together and give our at-risk community the basic human dignity of a warm towel to dry off with.
